ALL ABOUT BEEBLES (tm) by Filbert Firx
Beebles are small stick-like creatures with strange diamond-shaped heads
and nasty grasping claws that live by stealing things from unwary adventurers
and selling them to unscrupulous vending machines. When thwarted in this
endeavor they become vicious, and kill or maim. The name 'beeble' is derived
from the sound they make when tracking a victim, a sort of warbling noise,
which increases in length the closer they get.
Beebles track their victims tirelessly. They are rather slow, except
in the lower levels, and may easily be out-run. They are restless, but often
become torpid when no one is around. Nevertheless, beebles can be a
dangerous nuisance when they are between you and daylight. Beebles are
fortunately rather stupid, and may be tricked into following a traveler into
a maze, where they soon become confused. Their habit of dogged persistence
may be exploited, too. They are shy of objects, and have never been observed
to climb a ladder or utilize anything they find. Beebles are deathly afraid
of wurgles. Beebles will open doors, forgetting to shut them afterwards.
Beebles may be killed with a beeble zapper, available from some vendors
as a 'BeebZap' (tm). This item will work through walls and doors, but has
a limited range. The wary adventurer will want to carry two or three, just
to be on the safe side. Current beeble zappers have a rather small power
device installed, but otherwise are quite reliable. You may want a VisiLoc
(tm), available from vendors, to find beebles before they find you.
